10 Perfect Albums That Broke Up The Band

4. LA Woman - The Doors

The end of the '60s was a very dark time for most of the children of Flower Power. As the Vietnam War started to get more and more heavy, the dream of Woodstock seemed like a pipe dream, as the rest of the world started to move on with their lives and listen to heavier music. The Doors were always about expanding your mind though, and their final album brought everything back to where it started: the blues.

After already having to deal with Jim Morrison's drinking problems on the last few records, you can definitely hear the toll that the stuff has taken on his voice, sounding much lower than normal and not going for the wild screams that he was used to on songs like The End or When the Music's Over. This album isn't trying to be that though, giving you the impression of a planned jam session, along with Jim's most hard hitting poetry on the title track and the final song Riders on the Storm.

Before the album was even properly mixed though, Jim was out the door, going to Paris with his girlfriend to cool out and rediscover his love for music and poetry. He would never make it back home, passing away in a bathtub due to heart failure, which may or may not have been caused by heavy drinking. So when you listen to those final whispers on Riders on the Storm, it's not just a spooky effect. This may as well be the ghost of Jim paying us a visit through the speakers.
