10 Perfect Albums That Changed Rock History
3. The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Ever since the revolutionary music of the '60s, listeners knew that rock could mean a whole lot more than just a bunch of songs that complimented each other well. If you played your cards right, you might be able to make an album that is more of a reflection of your generation than just a few songs that were thrown together in a decent order. In that sense though, Dark Side of the Moon wasn't just a great album....it was a reflection on life.
After already dealing with losing Syd Barrett to his mental struggles, Pink Floyd's masterpiece is a 10 track meditation on what it's like to live in today's society. Though there is a very "we live in a society" mindset to some of these songs, it's not like they don't have the lyrics to back it up, with Time being about the nature of life that's chipping away at you every day and Money being the grooviest song about industrial greed.
Despite there being a definitive cynical slant to the lyrics though, there's an oddly uplifting feeling to the entire experience, as if the band are trying to push the way forward and find the meaning of life in between the notes they're playing. You can tell from the songs that life isn't always easy, but having something like this in the world can give us the strength to keep going.
