10 Perfect Alternative Albums That Deserve A Lot More Love

4. Maladroit - Weezer

Towards the mid '00s, Weezer were still in repair after coming back from the break. Since Pinkerton was just starting to pick up some steam as being a lot better than we remembered, Rivers Cuomo was trying to play it safe a lot of the time, working with the kind of power pop mold that made the band irresistible at the start of their career. When they took the advice of their fans though, Maladroit turned out to be a really slamming record.

In an attempt to collaborate with fans about what kind of songs should make the record, this is one of the more experimental projects by Weezer standards, long before they really should have stopped being experimental on albums like Raditude. Being a lot more off the cuff this time around, the tones on this record feel a lot more raw, especially when they're paired with some harder rock tunes like Take Control and Slob.

There are even a few tracks that didn't even seem to be within Weezer's grasp that go over pretty well, like the funky sounds of Burndt Jamb or the song Death and Destruction, which sounds like it should belong on some imaginary Radiohead project that came out between the Bends and Ok Computer. Despite their reputation, this might be the most nerd rock record that Weezer have ever made. After all, nerds are always curious about what else is out there, and you can hear the band trying to see what other sounds they can make as a band.
