10 Perfect Alternative Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

9. Cure For Pain - Morphine (1993)

Before Royal Blood were changing the game with an emphasis on heavy bass lines and pounding drums, there was Morphine.

The Massachusetts three piece, combined smooth jazz with dingy heroin rock. Without a lead guitar player, the band's sound revolved around lead singer Mark Sandman's driving bass; Dana Colley's saxophone leads; and Jerome Deupree's rhythmic drumming.

If smokey lounge jazz played with a rock style approach sounds appealing, then you won't be able to get enough of Cure For Pain. The unorthodox combination of instruments resulted in a moody, murky and laid back sound, that instantly set a vibe. This album conjures up images of a hazy underground venue, complete with ash trays and shifty bar staff. The tracks Beuna and I'm Free Now are particular highlights, but the overall flow of the album is its true accomplishment.

Although they received critical acclaim for the distinctive sound, the band never achieved widespread success. Mark Sandman suffered from a heart attack n 1999 while playing live. He collapsed in front of crowds of fans and died on stage.
