Out of everyone who grew up in the Seattle scene, there were only a few that were actually prepared to handle fame once grunge broke through. As much as someone like Chris Cornell embodied the kind of old school rock star persona, you also had people like Mark Arm who tried to run as far away from the spotlight as he possibly could. With that in mind, this isn't a song about a guy being dissatisfied with fame. This is a paranoid man who is scared out of his mind about keeping his family safe.
