10 Perfect Anti Rock Star Songs

7. Lukin - Pearl Jam

Out of everyone who grew up in the Seattle scene, there were only a few that were actually prepared to handle fame once grunge broke through. As much as someone like Chris Cornell embodied the kind of old school rock star persona, you also had people like Mark Arm who tried to run as far away from the spotlight as he possibly could. Pearl Jam had to keep going though, and Eddie Vedder was going to let out his feeling in whatever way he could.

Throughout most of No Code, you can hear Eddie fighting to make the kind of artsy rock music that he wanted to make, with a lot of songs going into some bizarre places. On Lukin though, this is a no nonsense punk rager that barely lasts a minute, with Eddie giving us some of the most intense lyrics on the entire record. Around this time, Eddie had someone stalking him, and this is a reaction to that kind of attention, being manic about keeping his privacy and getting worried that this stalker was actually purchasing a gun.

And he had reason to be concerned as well, since he built up a wall around his house and this person ended up trying to ram their car through the wall to get close to him. With that in mind, this isn't a song about a guy being dissatisfied with fame. This is a paranoid man who is scared out of his mind about keeping his family safe.
