10 Perfect Anti Rock Star Songs
4. Help! - The Beatles
Being a bit jaded about the rock star lifestyle isn't really anything new. From the first time that Bob Dylan started to get praise as one of the greatest musicians of all time, you could always see him getting a bit more annoyed by the way the press looked at him during interviews. And when you're a part of one of the most celebrated bands in music history, there comes a point when you need some sort of break.
Around the time that the Beatles were working on their second film after A Hard Day's Night, John Lennon was starting to slowly dislike the constant media circus of Beatlemania following them around. Couple that with him being introduced to marijuana around the same time, and John became a bit more depressed, calling this era of the band his "Fat Elvis Period" for how much he wasn't taking care of himself. While the band needed a deadline for the album, Help! is the purest example of John's frustration, looking to find someone in his life who can give him some sort of relief from the constant cycle of album and touring.
Looking back on his body of work, John was always complimentary towards this song, saying that it was one of the only two autobiographical songs he ever wrote with the Beatles along with Strawberry Fields Forever. He may have been looking for a break from it all, but in the world of rock and roll, there are only four people who know what he was going through, and they were the rest of the Fabs.
