10 Perfect Beatles Songs With No Flaws

7. Let it Be - Let it Be

After the White Album sessions wrapped, it felt almost impossible to get all of the Beatles back on the same page again. Although the album eventually ended up being one of their most celebrated, the Fabs were drifting apart creatively and were growing tired of making the same music under the Beatles' umbrella. And even if Let It Be ended up being the final project they made, Paul had one more masterpiece up his sleeve for the title track.

Opening up almost like a church hymn, the back to basics set up for this song works beautifully here, as Paul goes for his usual baritone voice and sings about Mother Mary coming to him. Contrary to the religious folk out there, this was actually written inspired by Paul's real life mother, who came to him in a dream around this time after the business deals of Apple started to weight on his mind. Delivering the message 'let it be,' this could practically be a cry for help from Paul, just hoping for the rest of the guys to hold it together so they can make some kind of record.

What ended up happening though led to this being the band's unintended swan song. After scrapping these sessions, the band worked on Abbey Road as their musical epitaph, before their label threw together the album Let It Be to fulfill their recording contract. While most of the band had put out solo efforts by the time this album hit shelves, this is the kind of final goodbye that suits the Beatles just fine.
