10 Perfect Closing Songs In Rock History

1. A Day in the Life - Beatles

As the Beatles walked away from touring life, it was still up in the air as to what they were going to do next. Since most of their greatest moments came from them being the lovable moptops onstage, what could they do once they were just left to their own devices in a studio? With the help of George Martin, Sgt. Pepper showed us the way forward for rock music, culminating in one hell of a final bow.

After the titular band wrap up their proceedings on the reprise of the opening track, A Day In the Life is the best of both worlds when it comes to Lennon and McCartney's songwriting, as both of them recount a typical day at the office, with John becoming more and more cynical alongside Paul's bumbling trip through the city. There are also many avant garde bits that no one would have even thought of at the time, like bringing in an orchestra to create one of the most off kilter volume swells in all of popular music.

By the time you got to end of the song and heard that final chord, something in the air felt a lot different. This was no longer the kind of rock music that was going to keep you satisfied for a few listens. This was the future of popular music as a whole, and the Beatles were more than willing to lead the charge.
