10 Perfect Glam Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

5. Mott - Mott the Hoople

Glam was never designed to be music that was supposed to speak to you. Given the kind of get ups that every band member was wearing around this time, it's no surprise that half of them were more focused on the looks than the actual guitar riffs they were playing. While it looked like Mott the Hoople were a David Bowie creation at the outset, Mott put them on much firmer ground with the rock faithful.

Taking the bluesier side of rock to its most logical place, Mott is a much more lowdown and dirty affair for the band, with Ian Hunter calling rock a loser's game at the outset. After already having All the Young Dudes under their belt, this is a much different beast, using their pop success as a way to experiment with different sounds, including the groove of Honaloochie Boogie or going back to their roots on songs like All the Way From Memphis.

This was just the start of what the band were capable of though, with Ian Hunter eventually turning in some stellar songs in his solo career and Mick Ralphs showing off his chops in Bad Company a few years down the road. Rock and roll may have been considered a loser's game, but if you can trust Tom Petty, even the losers tend to get lucky sometimes.
