10 Perfect Grunge Rock Albums Of The 90s

6. Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden

Out of all the great scenes in rock music, most of the grunge players did their homework on rock and roll. I mean, when it rains for nearly half of the year in Seattle, what else was there to do except for staying in your house and listening to records all day long? Whereas some bands may have found their calling in the grimy set of power chords, Soundgarden had their sights on the big leagues of rock and roll.

As far back as their first EPs, these guys were already getting hyped up as the next big thing to come out of the Northwest, only to hit their stride a little later on Badmotorfinger. Though the songs on the following album Superunknown would go on to become the definitive songs of the band, this is where they really let the music breathe, especially when going for glorious stadium rockers like Outshined and Rusty Cage.

This wasn't just music to put your lighters up to though, with Chris Cornell flirting with different flavors of prog and punk rock in some of the songs, including different odd time signatures and weird guitar tunings that would take your average guitarist a little while to decipher. Taken together as a whole, you get what sounds like if Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Rush all had a baby together. A loud, angry baby.
