10 Perfect Grunge Rock Albums Of The 90s

7. Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters

Grunge rock pretty much hit a firm brick wall after 1994. Since Kurt Cobain was no longer around to be the voice of a generation, most of the kids flocking to alternative found their calling listening to different sounding bands like Green Day or Smashing Pumpkins. That didn't mean that the rest of the members of Nirvana were finished making music just yet.

Fed up with wallowing in his funk, Dave Grohl decided to record some of his own songs that he had been writing while Nirvana were together at a four track studio. Rather than re-record it with session musicians, the first Foo Fighters record is all Dave from back to front, as he plays nearly all the instruments on every song with a few notable exceptions. What's even crazier is how solid the Foos' sound already is, with I'll Stick Around still being a staple of their live set.

Nowadays, it's easy to call a lot of the bro-tastic set of rock music post grunge, with bands like Nickelback giving the genre a less than stellar pedigree. Just a few years after grunge breathed its last breath though, the first Foo Fighters record was proof of what that sound could be like going forward. It was still washy and a little dirty between the cracks, but it was a lot more fun than what the genre had become.
