10 Perfect Hard Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
5. Rocks - Aerosmith
Most of the greatest hard rock music of the '70s usually had to be imported from Europe. For your average American kid, you always had to make a choice of buying the latest Zeppelin or Deep Purple record, or settling for the discount version with Grand Funk Railroad. While most of the American acts were spending time playing catchup with England, Aerosmith found their own way to the top with a healthy dose of boogie.
As far as Aerosmith albums go, Toys in the Attic is usually the album that everyone singles out, but Rocks is where they really started to find their swagger as a hard rock band. Whereas the previous album saw them playing with more sounds like on Adam's Apple, this is where they came into their own as amazing songwriters, with the swing of Last Child being one of the funkiest things they ever wrote.
Outside of the more straightforward cuts, there's a lot more aggression on this record, with Nobody's Fault sounding almost metallic in places. Hell, the entire concept behind something like Rats in the Cellar feels like Toys in the Attic, only with its teeth out in full force. Aerosmith were already headed for superstardom with their previous album, but this is where they became one of the greatest rock bands in the world.
