10 Perfect Hard Rock & Metal Albums That Bands HATE
8. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
It's astonishing to consider how much work Bruce Springsteen put into making Born to Run happen.
Knowing the potential for it to be massive, more time was spent on this one song than most others would spend on a single album, as the Boss worked the E Street Band to the brink. If you had worked that hard on anything in your life, you'd want it to be the most important thing you've ever done. Not so with Bruce.
When Springsteen finally washed his hands of the record, he almost didn't want to release it. In his mind, his search for the perfect rock and roll record wasn't getting anywhere and he was in way over his head with this one. Once the single itself started to get airplay on various bootlegs, Bruce got the spirit to finish the rest of the album, with more character portraits like Jungleland that would follow.
Even then, he still didn't feel like he was up to release it, eventually having a conversation with his manager about whether or not to just release a live album instead.
For all of the pain that came out of it, it's no wonder that Bruce's next album Darkness on the Edge of Town was so dark. When you've spent that much time working to achieve perfection, you're allowed to be at least a little bit jaded.
