10 Perfect Hard Rock Power Trios

6. The Jimi Hendrix Experience

There's a cheeky part of me that just wants to put these guys on this list just for the inclusion of Jimi Hendrix alone. It's not like people would disagree with putting a trio with one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived onto a list like this. This is about trios though, and the beauty of the Experience is just as important as their frontman.

Outside of Jimi's amazing guitar licks, Noel Redding was always as solid as a rock underneath it all, bringing in a deep bass groove and a background in R&B that blended perfectly with Jimi's bluesy background. And anyone who's seriously started to get into the drums has to take a few cues from Mitch Mitchell, who's style of bass heavy drum heads had a definite impact on the kind of drummers that we'd be seeing later down the line in hard rock.

Is there anything that I left out? Oh yeah, Jimi's guitar playing is above god tier. Across just three records, the man managed to change the world of rock guitar 3 or 4 times over, going from a psychedelic wash of sounds to creating luscious soundscapes across Electric Ladyland. Even though the Experience only lasted a few years before Jimi's untimely passing, it's still enough to etch them into rock history until the end of time.
