10 Perfect Hard Rock Power Trios

7. Husker Du

Before the '90s, it didn't really feel like alternative rock really existed the way that it does now. Sure, you had bands like the Pixies and R.E.M. flying the flag on the college rock circuit, but they were far too left of the dial to get mainstream airplay anytime soon. The only reason why these guys didn't blow up is because Husker Du were practically inventing the genre from the ground up still.

Long before the likes of Nirvana came along, Bob Mould was the poster child for writing something that had a lot more raw emotion than anyone thought could be possible on a hard rock record. Alongside Grant Hart and Greg Norton, these guys could thrash the place apart, write one of the punkiest riffs that you'd ever heard, and then put it into a song that had the potential to rip your heart right out of your chest.

Even their more accessible stuff like Candy Apple Grey has had an enormous impact on the pop punk and post hardcore scene, with Billie Joe Armstrong saying that he wanted to get into punk because he loved the way that Bob Mould's guitar sounded. Although Husker Du might not be everyone's favorite band, chances are their one of your favorite band's favorites.
