10 Perfect Heavy Metal Songs To Listen To When You're Angry
9. Metallica - St. Anger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwZuFexTy0k On St. Anger, Metallica's highly awaited return, the band adopted a more straightforward approach. Gone were the lengthy solo's the band utilized for the majority of their career, opting instead to focus on and streamline the thrashier exploits of their first releases into explosive bursts of rage, best exemplified on the ferocious title track. While the album didn't live up to long held expectations, the single remains one of the band's most focused attempts since the turn of the century. Questionable production aside, the intensity builds with every second that passes in this bone shattering, yet melodic, force of nature culminating in a frenzied climax. As shown on the documentary Some Kind Of Monster which chronicled the making of St. Anger, the band's increasing breakdown at the time helped to bring out their frustrations and infuse them with their trademark heavy style. The song touches on themes like condemnation with lyrics like, "Saint Anger 'round my neck, He never gets respect", possibly portraying a more personal account from the band since the critical panning of their late 90's albums, Load and Reload. Either way Metallica haven't sounded as hungry or as vital since this barnstormer in 2003. Angriest Lyric: "I'm madly in anger with you!".
