10 Perfect Heavy Metal Songs To Listen To When You're Angry

8. Strapping Young Lad - Detox

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f20L0msLsM The mechanical pulsations of Detox finds bandleader Devin Townsend at his most darkly introspective. The maze like structure of of the track can leave it hard to swallow at first but on repeated listens it's incredible that the band manage to pull it all together without it coming apart at the seams. They waste no time with aggressive chants led by galloping drums and shredding guitars, never a band known for their subtlety they proceed to lead the listener through a roller-coaster of anger induced emotions, living up to its title. The industrial elements and angst ridden themes emanate throughout this labyrinth track as they do for the whole of the album it's taken off (City) but this song hits a particular high mark for the band's ability to blend melody into their mesh of dark, heavy themes creating a smorgasbord of ideas sprouting out with each section change. If you can handle the insane rage pouring out of every nook of this track, this one is an example of a brilliantly crafted metal song. Never a band to conform even in the 90's when every metal band seemed to be doing it (looking at you Machine Head), Strapping Young Lad did this. The metal gods thank them that they did. Angriest Lyric: "So here's all my hopes and aspirations, Nothing but puke, God, I'm so lonely"...
