10 Perfect Hip-Hop Albums With No Bad Songs
5. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
The kind of backlash that was coming Kanye West's way in the late '00s was enough to kill any other rapper. After already being beaten down by his recent divorce and the death of his mother, his interruption of Taylor Swift at the VMAs painted him as the true villain of the music world. It was time for him to regroup, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is like seeing Ye starting over entirely.
As the years have gone on, this is one of the most gargantuan album experiences that hip hop has to offer, as West brought in everyone he could find to suit his songs, from Elton John contributing piano to All of the Lights to Bon Iver crooning over songs like Lost in the World. Compared to the macho posturing of before, this is also one of the last times we were able to see Ye as a vulnerable human being.
Long before he became the tabloid darling that the press ogle over today, the sound of Runaway doesn't seem nearly as braggadocios in retrospect. This is a man who's scared of how much he's letting his life get out of hand, and is working as hard as he can to make sure that he makes the right decision. There's some light at the end of the tunnel, but you have to remember that the light and the dark go hand in hand.
