10 Perfect Hip Hop Music Samples Of Classic Rock Songs
6. Kid Cudi's Cudderisback - Ottoman (Vampire Weekend)
After a period away from the limelight in the late 2010s, Kid Cudi has slowly filtered back into the zeitgeist. His more recent releases might not have captured the same fire he had during his hey day, but it's encouraging to see the man make music again - particularly after his open struggles with mental health.
His early work included hits like "Pursuit Of Happiness" and "Day 'N' Night" but his true gems came in the form of numbers like "Mr. Rager" and "Maniac" - featured on his second studio album Man on the Moon II (2010). Cudi's early work was characterised by his introspective musings and his struggles with depression. But for every lo fi stoner-ballad he had something as equally upbeat.
His 2010 mixtape Cudderisback exemplified the rappers ability to write humorous and insightful autobiographical lyrics. The title track was underpinned by an unexpected sample from indie-rock group Vampire Weekend. The jaunty indie-pop melody lent itself perfectly to Cudi's flow.
It wouldn't hurt his career to lean on the rock samples again.
