10 Perfect Hit Songs That Are Insanely Long

3. Too Long - Daft Punk

For the longest time, there was no way that any type of electronic music was going to be played on the radio that much. While you had acts that put some electronic influences into their sound like the Beastie Boys, this was the kind of music that was reserved for the raves of the world, meant for people to party all night long. Something started to change in the ‘90s with the arrival of the Chemical Brothers, and Daft Punk took it to much greater heights on Discovery.

In between the classic songs of Y2K, you also have tracks like Harder, Better, Faster Stronger getting major airplay as well. When you bought the proper album though, Too Long feels more like a piece of meta-humor about the album itself, considering the song reaches nearly ten minutes as opposed to the tight runtimes of everything else. This is the kind of song that you need to let stir for a little bit longer though, as Daft Punk layer one great sample on top of one another.

Though it’s easy to call this kind of thing repetitive upon first listen, you have to pay attention to everything else that’s going on in the mix every few seconds. One minute you might get tired of Romanthony talking about how he knows you need it, but by the time the rest of the band kicks in behind him, he’s got you hook, line and sinker without you even realizing it. Despite what the robot helmets might imply, Daft Punk’s music always feels like a living breathing entity whenever they make songs like this.
