10 Perfect Metal Albums With No Bad Songs
6. Iowa - Slipknot
It was practically a miracle that any of the nu metal bands actually found their way onto MTV. Since Korn was pretty much sharing equal screen time with the Backstreet Boys back in the day, that led the way for record executives to find acts that catered towards the bottom of the barrel like Staind and Limp Bizkit. Even when they thought they had nu metal down to a science, we still weren't ready for something like Iowa.
Hell, there's probably a good argument that we weren't ready for Slipknot as a whole, with 9 crazed metalheads forming in Iowa and hiding their identities behind demented masks. Though Wait and Bleed and Spit It Out made for great songs for the mosh pit, Iowa was where the darkness grew that much more menacing, featuring songs that could peel the flesh off your bones if you weren't prepared.
And you better believe they freaked out the mainstream public as well, with songs like the Heretic Anthem becoming staples of their shows and this album reaching the top of the Billboard Album Charts at the time. Only in the nu metal days would you be able to take a record this ugly and make it one of the most in demand recordings of the time. Then again, maybe there's a lot more anger that needed to be let out than a lot of people realized.
