10 Perfect Metal Albums With Only One Bad Song
5. Pink Cellphone - Deftones
For the most part, Deftones don't really have a bad album to their name. Even though there have been peaks and valleys with band shakeups, they always manage to find that balance that's somewhere between blissfully serene and some of the most caustic music that you will ever hear. There has always been a bit of contention surrounding the record Saturday Night Wrist, and Pink Cellphone is a big reason why.
On the whole though, this record is still a solid entry for the band, having songs that bring in the atmospherics and blending well with the heavier riffs from Stephen Carpenter. The minute that you hear the woman in this song start to speak though, everything gets really weird really fast.
Apart from not hearing Chino Moreno's trademark voice, the second half of this song goes off the deep end with this answering machine sounding message where Annie Hardy from Giant Drag talks about sexual acts taking place at truck stops and even throwing shade at British people for no good reason.
The music almost takes a nose dive on the back half of this song as well, sounding less like a metal rager and more like something that you would find at some seedy bar. In retrospect, the studio sessions for this song need to be deleted and someone owes Annie Drag an apology for making this her only inclusion on a Deftones record.
