10 Perfect Music Albums That Defined The 2010's

7. Blackstar - David Bowie

Every artist is going to have to face their mortality at some point whether they want to or not. We all come with a death sentence at some point in our lives, and it's up to us to learn how to come to terms with what's going to happen once we're gone. There's no right answer as to how to do it right, but David Bowie offered us a way to bow out with class on Blackstar.

Arriving just a few days before his untimely passing, this entire album feels like a diary from Bowie as he recounts what parts of his life he might regret and coming to peace with what he has to leave behind. Going for a much more jazzy affair this time around, most of this album sounds like Bowie has grown into the mature songwriter that we all had known for so long, only with a greater attention focused on what happens when you have to pack things up for that trip into the afterlife.

Yes, this album might seem uncomfortable for some of the hardened Bowie fans to stomach all at once, but there's never a point on here where Bowie feels scared about what's coming next. If anything, this serves as a lesson of what we can all do when facing our own mortality. When we shuffle off this mortal coil, here's hoping we can do it with at least a fraction of the bravery that Bowie had at the end.
