10 Perfect Music Albums That Defined The 90s

3. Alanis Morissette: Jagged Little Pill (1995)

A list of '90s defining albums wouldn't be complete without paying heed to the more pop-centric records of the decade. We need to face the fact that the '90s was a decade of cheesy soft rock that bordered on cringe inducing agony. But, one can't deny the allure of this kind of music. Alanis Morissette is up there with Shania Twain, and Hanson, for her infectiously enjoyable vibe. That's not to say she didn't go deep on this record...

You Oughta Know, is an all out jam. The sexually explicit, scathing take down of a former ex-lover is nothing, if not biting. Its quintessentially '90s pop rock, with lyricism that inspires a sense of defiant, independence and spite... , a potent mix. On top of that, it features a driving rhythm and guitar section, from non other than Dave Navarro, and Flea. Oh, and if you watch the music video, you'll notice a certain member of the Foo Fighters on the drum kit.

Now, lets turn to the elephant in the room... Whether you're proud of it or not, Ironic, is a song that will inspire you to belt out the chorus with an unbridled enthusiasm. The memory of this album is perhaps tarnished by the near incessant playing of Ironic well into the 2000s. But damn it, this album is still great. It might be a guilty pleasure, but after the last few years, we deserve it.
