10 Perfect Post Grunge Albums In Rock Music History

8. Stone Sour - Stone Sour

The minute that Slipknot started to take off, it looked like any hope of Corey Taylor succeeding with Stone Sour was dead in the water. Since he had carved himself out as one of the stronger metal vocalists on the scene at the time, there was no real reason to go back to the average post grunge band that he made in a previous life. Taylor never forgot where he came from though, and the rebirth of the band was a lot brighter than anyone could have imagined.

Before anyone even thinks of the joke, this is by no means a Slipknot lite sort of project. This is the kind of rock outfit that shows Taylor as a unique frontman in his own right, at a time when most of Slipknot barely showed their faces behind their masks. In a strange way, that really helped out this project, with Taylor being looked at as a singer in his own right and actually pulling it off on tracks like Bother.

Granted, Taylor isn't the only strength to this project either, and the interplay between Jim Root and Josh Rand is much more nuanced than what most people would have probably expected from the new school of rockers. And given the fact that Slipknot sounds like absolute insanity at the best of times, it's nice to hear the second skin that these guys have outside of their metal edge.
