10 Perfect Posthumous Rock Albums
2. Brainwashed - George Harrison
If you're a true musician, time tends to be your biggest adversary wherever you go. Since you're one human being, you're going to have to work with whatever you have and hope that you're to say something worthwhile towards the end of your life. When listening to something like Brainwashed though, you get to see just how much joy George Harrison brought to our lives.
At the time that this was set to come out, The Quiet Beatle had been battling a battle with cancer that he was not going to win, and was determined to finish one last statement for his audience. After running out of time though, George's son Dhani worked with ELO wizard Jeff Lynne to put the rest of this album together, comprising of some new songs and a handful of older tunes that never saw a studio release.
Even though it sounds like it should be a demo tape, there's a lot of cohesion in between the tracks here, going from the joyful cover of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and a song like Rising Sun bringing us back to the same vibes that we got from Here Comes the Sun all those years ago. Capping things off with the solemn prayer at the end of the title track, this doesn't feel like a sad parting for George. Death is never easy, but most of us wish it could be this peaceful.
