10 Perfect Rap Songs For Rock Music Fans
6. JU$T - Run the Jewels
You don't need some random guy on the Internet to tell you that the last few years have been a bit rough in America. Aside from the plague that we've all had to deal with since 2020 started, you've had riots in the streets going on after the mistreatment of black Americans by law enforcement. Some artists had to speak up though, and Run the Jewels knew just who to call in to make their song come alive.
For most of RTJ's fourth outing, you can hear them seething with anger while also having empathy for each other, as Killer Mike and EL-P try to make sense of the world that's turning around them. Right in the middle of the record comes JU$T, which details how much the odds are stacked against you coming from the bottom, with the higher ups in business feeling like the new slave masters. Though the beat comes courtesy of Pharrell, the whole song turns a corner when you hear Zack de la Rocha delivering his screams on the back half of the song.
Most Rage Against the Machine fans hadn't heard from Zack in a long time, and this was just the right cause to bring him back from the brink, calling out the people at the top for their unjust practices just like he did back in the '00s. This wasn't just some nostalgia trip either. The last few years had been fairly ugly, and hearing this kind of rage was just what we needed.
