10 Perfect Rock Albums For Production
9. Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Around the same time that grunge was starting to make its first steps into the world, there was something a little different going on down South. In the same clubs that once housed bands like Winger and Motley Crue was a young band named Rage Against the Machine, with a sound that no one had ever thought of before. What was happening was nothing short of lightning in a bottle, and these four guys nailed their sound down in just a few days.
Recording out of the legendary Sound City studio, most of the first Rage record gets by on just sounding as fundamental as possible. While it didn’t have the same sounds as the grunge scene coming out at the time, fans could still appreciate the massive amount of punch behind this record, like Tom Morello stomping on his foot pedals to rip your face off at the beginning of Bombtrack or Timmy C’s bass flying off the hinges at the beginning of Take The Power Back.
Rage were always a rap rock outfit though, and the beat was the most important part of things, from Brad Wilk’s easy classic rock fills in the mix and Zack de la Rocha getting his point across with pure anger in his soul. It might be just a rock band and a microphone, but the songs behind it feel like so much power. This feels like the kind of music that you’re hearing on the street as the resistance starts preparing to go to war.
