10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 1980s
4. Back In Black - AC/DC
There is absolutely no one who could have faulted AC/DC for wanting to call it a day at the start of the '80s. Given that they lost one of the greatest frontmen of all time in Bon Scott, there was no reason for them to continue on without their rough and ragged voice leading the charge. To all of our surprise though, Angus Young wasn't going to spend the rest of his musical career moping.
With new singer Brian Johnson in tow, these Aussies set about making an album that would feel like a worthy tribute to their fallen brother, which turned into one of the greatest albums of their entire career. It's not like Bon's spirit isn't alive and well on this record either, from the opening toll of the bell on Hells Bells to songs like the title track acting as a celebration of what he did rather than a memorial.
It doesn't stop at just a handful of eulogies either, given that songs like You Shook Me All Night Long and Shoot To Thrill could stand as any lesser rock band's greatest work if they had put it out on their own. As it stands, AC/DC found out that the best way to top perfection isn't to try and replicate it. It's about looking deep inside yourself and finding something you weren't even sure you were capable of.
