10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 2000s
5. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
There have been enough memes on the Internet at this point to know that the emo scene wasn't just a phase for people. No matter how many times concerned moms wanted their kids to snap out of it, the era of mall goth had a kung fu grip on kids' emotions and would continue to show up in different genres to this day. Then again, none of the other bands had the pure song power of The Black Parade.
Aside from being the album whose lyrics were written on many a middle school notebook, My Chemical Romance really did have a masterpiece on their hands with this album. Taking their version of rock and roll into the theatrical realm, every one of these songs had the potential to become your favorite track, from the peppy dread of Dead! to the amazing heartbreak on I Don't Love You.
This wasn't just playing with a couple of Queen style songs either. On tracks like Mama and Sleep, you can hear MCR tapping into material that they probably didn't even understand, with the performances sounding like they're just on the verge of chaos at every turn. Despite the different interpretations for the ending, it almost doesn't matter whether the protagonist dies or not. It's about the journey that you were able to take in your mind as the music played.
