10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 2000s
6. Elephant - White Stripes
A lot of the most successful rock albums of the early '00s ended up sounding way too clean. Although there were plenty of people trying to bring back some rootsier version of rock and roll, the sounds of everyone from Blink 182 to Sum 41 always seemed to have the middle school approved version of what rock was supposed to be. Change was in the air though, and Jack White almost single handedly brought back the fuzz on Elephant.
Even with the White Stripes being a few years old at this point, this is where Jack White's minimalist project stopped being just a gimmick. With everything stripped down to its bare essentials, you're hearing each of these songs in their absolute purest form, from the pure angst and rage on Ball and Biscuit to the open heartache on You've Got Her In Your Pocket.
Also, anyone who's still making memes about Meg White not being a good drummer needs to give this album another listen. While not being the most complicated player behind the skins, the ramshackle energy she brings to the band is the perfect compliment to Jack's eccentric guitar wizardry. There's a reason why there's only two people here. If you took anything out or put anything into the equation here, things would cease being perfect.
