10 Perfect Rock Albums Of The 2000s
4. Elephant - The White Stripes (2003)
Talk about a band who was prolific, The White Stripes gave the world five albums during the noughties and what’s more they were all great.
White Blood Cells could also appear on this list, Fell In Love With a Girl is one of the best and shortest breakup songs out there, coming in at under two minutes... , but look at that, we're trying to squeeze an extra album into this list…
Really there was no other choice, Elephant featured, among others, Ball and Biscuit, Hardest Button to Button and of course the universally accepted anthem for just about every live event, Seven Nation Army. Even if you don’t own a guitar, you can just sing the melody and people will join in.
Elephant was the fourth album by the mysterious siblings/couple duo, and it pretty much summed up what The White Stripes were about, stripped back, no-nonsense rock music. There’s some punk influences in there, plenty of garage rock, a few tasty blues licks, and just enough drum to get the job done.
Meg White has gotten shtick over the years for her minimalist approach to drumming, but if the recipe works why change it? You add the frantic eruptions of Jack Whites' guitar solos, coupled with that instantly recognisable nasal vocal delivery, and you’ve got yourself a timeless rock album.
