10 Perfect Rock Albums That Almost Destroyed Bands

2. One By One - Foo Fighters

If you've proven yourself as one of the biggest bands of your generation, you're going to have a lot at your disposal to make a record. While you may have only had a couple of random pieces of tape to work with in the early days, you would be given the most state of the art equipment once you have a few hits on the charts. Then again, no amount of studio magic is ever going to be able to replace chemistry.

After making There Is Nothing Left to Lose as a trio, the Foo Fighters regrouped with new guitarist Chris Shiftlett for One by One. The band were not on good terms though, with Taylor Hawkins recently coming off of a drug overdose and getting more resentful that Dave Grohl was spending his time away from the band playing drums in Queens of the Stone Age.

When they eventually had the songs finished, they didn't want to release it, thinking that it wasn't up to their standards. After making up at a festival gig though, Grohl decided to throw out their $1,000,000 record and start over from scratch, eventually making the final version of All My Life in his basement. Though the band have managed to distance themselves from this record nowadays, you can still feel that internal angst as they desperately try to rekindle that old flame.
