10 Perfect Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
4. Permanent Waves - Rush
Any newcomers to the rock scene might need to take a little bit of time before they get into Rush. Since this is the self proclaimed nerd rock band out of all the prog giants, it tends to be a little intimidating when you have random time signature changes across 10 minutes of a song. When Rush wanted to though, they were able to shape their complexity into something much more radio friendly.
While most people would recommend something like Moving Pictures as the most accessible version of Rush, Permanent Waves is the real send off that can please almost any rock fan. Just from the opening strains of The Spirit of Radio, any music fan can get a rush (insert dad pun here) from the opening guitar lick from Alex Lifeson. There are even some poignant lyrics sprinkled into the mix this time, as Neil Peart trades in his fantasy lyrics for dissections of the human psyche, talking about man's choices on Freewill and the intimacy between two people on Entre Nous.
Out of all the Rush albums from their classic period, this is probably the one album that has its heart on its sleeve the most. It might be an acquired taste for some, but if you're feeling adventurous, these 6 tracks are nothing but perfection.
