10 Perfect Rock Bands With Two Lead Singers

1. The Beatles

If you really think about it, the Beatles may be the ideal version of what became known as the rock band. Long before the Stones and The Animals started as part of the British Invasion, most of the rock and rollers of the day were solo artists like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis before the Fab Four. Now we had four Elvises for the price of one, and every one of them had personality to their voice.

Once you break down the sound of the group, it's the magic between John Lennon and Paul McCartney, with Lennon's gruff delivery matching surprisingly well with the clean boy next door polish of what McCartney brought to the table. And while it took a little while for both George Harrison and Ringo Starr to get their due, each of them had a unique charm to their voice, from the mature intellectual side of George to Ringo being the lighthearted one of the group that always kept the good times rolling.

For most singers though, the magic came with just how the Fabs could harmonize, taking the building blocks of some of the stuff that was started by acts like the Everly Brothers and taking it that much further. By the time you reach albums like Abbey Road and songs like Because, the band had gone from the garage band from Liverpool to musical veterans that could take on some of the most complicated styles this side of classical music. The rock world still had a lot of growing up to do from here, but the vocal chemistry that the Fabs hit upon in just under 9 years is practically superhuman.
