10 Perfect Rock Debut Albums Of The 2000s
1. Hot Fuss - The Killers
If there was one genre that seemed to go along with the '00s, it was the idea of the throwback. Though we had leftover genres from the previous decade like post grunge and Britpop, the likes of The White Stripes and The Strokes brought us back to the days of garage rock where all you needed was a bunch of chords and mountains of attitude to seal the deal. That didn't mean there wasn't room for some '80s flair in the mix either.
Bursting out of the Las Vegas scene, the Killers' debut album Hot Fuss is pretty much the blueprint for what a modern classic should sound like. Before you even get to the production, the song power on here is absolutely fantastic, with Mr. Brightside becoming a karaoke staple by the second time you heard it and Somebody Told Me being the dancefloor anthem for rockers.
And no matter how dated it may have sounded even at the time, there was no choice but to have these songs made with synthesizers. That's because these are the songs that are meant to be the soundtrack to adolescence, with everything seeming like the most earth shattering sound imaginable. You could get your heart broken to these songs, or you can have every one of your dreams fulfilled, but you'll always have the music by your side.
