10 Perfect Rock Debut Albums Of The 2000s
7. 30 Seconds to Mars - 30 Seconds to Mars
As the years have gone on, it seems like Jared Leto is actively trying to erase any of the goodwill that we had towards his first few projects. Though he only had bit parts in movies like American Psycho in his early days, his turn as the Joker have just made people scream for the wrong reasons. Hell, there are probably a good portion of his audience who didn't even realize the man had a singing career, and was damn good at it no less.
While 30 Seconds to Mars didn't really hit their true stride until the mid '00s with albums like a Beautiful Lie, that first record is still miles ahead of what the rest of the rock scene was doing. At a time when most bands were concerned about ranting about their pain, the ethereal sounds on here felt more akin to the space rock genres that came out of the '70s, only with a finer attention to detail this time.
To this day, the songs on this record still sound like they're being beamed in from the future, especially when Jared lets out his scream and makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Although Tom DeLonge has tried his hand at making space tinged rock and roll with Angels and Airwaves through the years, there's no substitute for the ones that started it all.
