10 Perfect Rock Debut Albums Of The 2000s
8. Oracular Spectacular - MGMT
One of the best parts about the '00s was just how much genres were expanding. After the alternative revolution kicked the door down for bands that were a little weird to be on the charts, we were about to explore just how weird it could get in the next decade. And when you end up screwing around with some retro sounds, you sometimes end up with a hit almost by accident.
While it would be easy to just put Oracular Spectacular into the alternative category, that doesn't really tell the full story here. From the first time you hear a song like Electric Feel, you'll know the minds behind MGMT are masterclass songwriters, with hooks that are more focused on art rock of someone like Talking Heads than someone like Blink 182 from around the same time.
Out of all of their contemporaries though, no other rock band could boast production like this, especially with Kids sounding like a long lost relic from the glory days of '80s pop. These good times weren't meant to last though, since MGMT spent most of their time since expanding their sound even further on albums like Little Dark Age. At the same time, these songs on here weren't meant to just be a random singalong that you jammed to back in high school. They're the jams that are going to stick with you for the rest of your life.
