10 Perfect Rock Frontmen Of The 90s

6. Chris Cornell - Soundgarden

It's about time that rock fans face the fact that we will never get another band like Led Zeppelin ever again. The kind of otherworldly magic that came with Zeppelin is the stuff of rock legend at this point, and the golden god status of Robert Plant will always be the archetype that other frontmen have to measure up to. From a raw execution standpoint though, Chris Cornell is in the same league with the greatest rockers to ever grab the mic.

Which is strange considering that when Cornell originally started in music, he was originally behind the drum kit when performing with Soundgarden. Once he started to tap into what he could really do with his voice though, it was only natural that he be at the center of the stage, bringing the same maniacal shouts of someone like Janis Joplin but with a healthy dose of muscle behind him.

Along with penning a lot of Soundgarden's timeless tracks, the raw power of Cornell's voice was enough to carry any song on its own, sounding like a Marshall amplifier that was cranked to its maximum capacity. Even with the less flashy sides of grunge that were happening at the time, Cornell still had the chops as a virtuoso musician. You can try to equal something like Spoonman, but any mortal knows that it's foolish to walk the same steps as musical gods.
