10 Perfect Rock Guitar Riffs
4. Money - Pink Floyd
The word riff just seems synonymous with the guitar. Before you even clicked on this article, chances are that a lot of the guitar players out there were itching to pick up their six-strings and find something interesting to learn. Then again, who says that the greatest riffs of all time just have to be played on the guitar? It's time to let the low end have a turn.
Coming off one of the greatest rock albums of all time, Money by Pink Floyd is still one of the greatest anomalies in rock history. Considering the main riff is actually played on a bass, the entire song feels almost hypnotic, as if you're being lulled into this uncomfortable state with no set form of stability. And that's because this is prog...where almost nothing has to make sense.
Being the studio wizards they were, this is also in an odd meter, making the entire riff just a little bit strange whenever you try to find the downbeat. Hell, you end up pitying the saxophonist by the end, who has to take a solo in this odd meter and still find his way back into the main groove. I mean, when you have something that's about the insatiable greed that business suits have for money, the uncomfortable part of this riff actually starts to make a little more sense.
