10 Perfect Rock Music Albums Of The 2010s

7. Diamond Eyes - Deftones

Before Diamond Eyes was even conceived, there were probably some skeptics that were thinking that Deftones were on the verge of a breakup. After going through one of their most polarizing releases with Saturday Night Wrist and the death of bassist Chi Cheng leading to shelving their album Eros, starting from square one definitely felt like a step backwards. This wasn't just a band of ordinary musicians...these were guys who were looking to blow the doors off their hinges again.

Just like an album like Back in Black was for Bon Scott 30 years before, Diamond Eyes feels like both a reaction to Chi's death and a celebration of what he brought to the music. Though the sounds of this album don't deal with the tragedy specifically, you can tell that everyone brought their best to make a perfect Deftones release, sprinkling in everything from dropped tuned guitars to some of the most ethereal sounding melodies of their career like on the title track.

Chino Moreno had also not lost any of his touch behind the microphone, sounding just as fiery as he used to and even managing to grow into a much more polished singer in between the screams like on You've Seen the Butcher. All of the newer bands in the scene had better be taking notes right now. This is the ultimate example of how you come back strong.
