10 Perfect Rock Music Albums Of The 2010s
6. Blackstar - David Bowie
After years of being in the spotlight, you're going to eventually start thinking about your own mortality. Since you've been in the public eye for over half of your life, there comes a point where you're going to have to handle what kind of impact you're leaving behind for the rest of the world. Even when looking death square in the face though, David Bowie tackled it bravely with Blackstar.
Over the course of an hour, this is almost like Bowie writing his own eulogy, as he details all the parts of his life that he's going to have abandon before eventually meeting his maker. Just the title track alone could have gone down as one of the greatest songs in his catalog, especially when accompanied by the videos from this era depicting the Thin White Duke frail and making the most of his fragile state.
It even proved to be highly prophetic when, just a few days after the release of the album, Bowie passed away after a long battle with cancer. Outside of the actual music within, Blackstar stands on its own as an album that is to be respected by anyone entering a creative medium. You may have your whole life to make your first impression, but this shows that you have the rest of it to carve out your final statement.
