10 Perfect Rock Music Songs That Were Inspired By The Beatles

1. Mr. Blue Sky - ELO

From the minute that ELO started to get buzz, there were a lot of people thinking that they were like the Beatles for the next generation. From the lavish soundscapes in their music to the tuneful melodies, Jeff Lynne's vision for the band drew a lot of Beatles comparisons in the early days, with even John Lennon talking about them taking the sounds of I Am the Walrus and bringing it that much further. Jeff had no problem being compared to the Beatles though, and his way of interpolating his favorite band gave us one of the happiest songs of all time.

Although the origin of Mr. Blue Sky originated from Jeff seeing the sun come out after days of weathering through a storm, the Beatles touches are practically everywhere on this song, from the chord progression having a few connections to Yesterday to the George Harrison slide guitar on the chorus to the weird studio experiments like the choir coming in on the last few choruses.

There are even a few Beatles touches that you didn't realize were there until you listened closer, like the firebell sound on the verse actually having a little bit in common with the handbell that you hear on Penny Lane. This kind of production style was practically a love letter to the band that raised Jeff, and may have helped his case when he ended up producing a few unearthed Beatles tracks for the Anthology in the '90s. You can call it a rip off if you wanted to, but Jeff knows that he is a child of the Beatles' music, and is damn proud of it.
