10 Perfect Rock Singles On Bad Albums

6. Deadcrush - Alt J: Relaxer (2017)

The excitement one feels when alt-J releases a new single, is hard to match. Residing in the more avant-garde realms of alternative rock, these guys know how to grab your attention. They never fail to pull you into their weird energy. Their fat bass and synth melodies encourage you to sway like you're at some kind of religious sermon.

Deadcrush was no different, following on from 3 WW, In Cold Blood and Adeline, it was the fourth single to precede the release of their 2017 album. And, by all indication it was a record to be excited for. Each single had merit, and each was alluring in that quintessentially weird, alt-J way.

But alas the album was a disappointment. To say it was truly bad, might be an unfair assessment, but it lacked the oomph of their previous two records. These guys made their name making albums that had an intrinsic flow to them. You were constantly surprised but pleased with what you heard. Relaxer lacked this virtue. The tracks that tied the singles together just felt like an ensemble of half-baked ideas.
