10 Perfect Rock Songs That Don't Have Any Lyrics

7. Session - Linkin Park

When nu metal started to transition into just traditional alt rock around the mid '00s, a lot of bands didn't really know what to do with their men behind the turntables. These were the guys who brought the hip hop edge into their sound a lot of the time, so where were they going to go once the sounds of Limp Bizkit went way out of style? The age of samplists seemed dead and gone, but Mr. Hahn left us with one hell of a note to go out with.

While it wasn't anything new for nu metal bands to have random scratch tracks during this time, Session is where things started to get a little bit more eclectic in the genre, with Joe pulling from different orchestral pieces to give you the feeling of listening to a film score as you're listening to the track. Picking up right where Cure for the Itch left off on Hybrid Theory, this track practically paints the picture of what you're seeing on the album cover, as the strings swell and give you the feeling of walking through some abandoned city that was once thriving but is now reaching total collapse.

Once Linkin Park fully transitioned to alt rock though, this is the kind of stuff that they were able to keep along the way, with Joe continuing to have a hand in the production side of things to create a picture in your mind. Even if some of Linkin Park's more celebrated works sound a bit dated these days, this is the kind of product of its time that reflects well on the time period it came from.
