10 Perfect Rock Songs That Don't Have Any Lyrics

6. Moby Dick - Led Zeppelin

When the British Blues Boom started to come into its own, Led Zeppelin practically felt like superheroes of the scene. While Jimmy Page had already turned in time as the guitar superstar behind the Yardbirds, fans were not prepared for the kind of wails coming out of Robert Plant, sounding like he was being tortured half the time on songs like Heartbreaker and Dazed and Confused. The real muscle of the band was always in the back though, and John Bonham gave us an idea of how much strength we were working with towards the end of their second record.

Starting things off, Moby Dick is a fairly decent bluesy stomper track, just banging out a kick ass riff between Page, Bonzo, and John Paul Jones for a few bars before leading you back into the same form all over again. Once they jam on that riff for a while, everything drops out and it's time for Bonzo to take center stage, going on a lengthy drum solo that would leave any other drummer in shambles, tearing through the kit with brute force and never letting up for a minute.

Some of it might seem impossible for most average drummers, but it was more than even Bonzo's sticks could handle too, electing to drop them entirely and play the second half of the solo using only his limbs, borderline assaulting his drum kit in the process. The band may come back in to wrap the song up, but there's no real way to follow a drum break like that, no matter how good you think the next riff is.
