10 Perfect Rock Songs That Don't Have Any Lyrics
3. Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson
There's probably a lot of people in here saying that there aren't as many virtuosos on this list as you might think. And while some of the gods of rock guitar like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani all have perfect songs in their own right, they seem to be in their own category and really deserve to have lists of their own later down the line. We will be making one exception here though, and it's one of the catchiest guitar songs that the rock world has ever known.
From the second that Cliffs of Dover starts, you're already in for a ride, as Eric Johnson dials in the perfect guitar tone and shreds his way through different scales without even batting an eye. Though his use of pedal point on the first solo is catchy on its own, the song doesn't really get down to business until you get the swing of the main riff, getting your body moving and the full band coming in as Eric puts together some of the most lyrical guitar parts of all time.
Even though you can't really call anything in this song a chorus, the reoccurring guitar motif is something that will lodge itself deep inside your brain and start paying rent. Without any lyrics to show for it, this is still one of the only songs that you can probably sing along to every note that Eric plays.
