10 Perfect Rock Songs That Got Better Live

4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Any band who even tries to cover a Beatles song live is pretty much tempting fate. The Fab Four have already created some of the most perfect rock and roll that will ever exist, and even they didn't think to actually perform their songs live, opting to just stick to the studio for the back half of their career. You're going to need something special to pull it off, and it turns out George Harrison's masterpiece just needed a slight shade of Purple.

Paying tribute to Harrison after getting into the Hall, a masterclass of musicians went onstage to perform a version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, with Tom Petty subbing in on vocals. Even with the king of heartland rock on the mic and Eric Clapton just off to the side, Prince absolutely steals the show from the moment he tears into his solo, with a massive amount of energy and some of the flashiest guitar playing that he has ever done.

Since Prince has always been known as a showman, this is the kind of solo that has all of his trademarks, always bringing in some insanely fast runs without feeling the need to play too many notes to compensate for paying tribute to a musical god. Much like the Beatles had done before him, Prince proved with this solo that he was one of the true musicians who had the gift of melody running through his veins.
