10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Never Released As Singles
1. The Masterplan - Oasis
Throughout most of the Oasis' '90s glory years, there have been people talking about how great their B-sides were. Since Noel Gallagher only was known for writing in his signature style, he didn't really concern himself with the quality of a B-side compared to what the A-side had in store. And even though Wonderwall has gone on to become one of the most celebrated songs of the '90s though, it is a crime that The Masterplan was never a single in its own right.
While it could have just been the fact that Noel already had a bulletproof lead vocal on Don't Look Back in Anger, this is where his songwriting really started to hit its peak, going from the traditional rock and roll lineup to having an entire orchestra backing him on this song. As the song starts off brooding, the entire track opens up in the chorus with one of the greatest melodies of the '90s, as Noel gives us all that optimistic attitude that Oasis were so great with when they started out.
Although the more grandiose cuts wouldn't turn up until the next record, this is all of the bombast that Be Here Now is supposed to have, only with a lot of the fluff removed. Of all the million times that Oasis have been compared to the Beatles throughout their career, this is probably the closest that Noel has come to writing something that would be on Lennon and McCartney's level.
