10 Perfect Rock Songs That Were Written By Accident

9. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

At the time of its release, Def Leppard's Hysteria was quickly turning into one of the most expensive records ever made in the UK. As the band dealt with Rick Allen's terrible car crash and going through several different producers, the follow up to Pyromania ended up going through production hell for the better part of 3 years before it was actually released. Even at the 11th hour though, the trademark song of the record was nowhere to be found.

Once the band was laying down the vocals for Armageddon It, they decided to take a coffee break when Joe Elliott picked up an acoustic guitar and started to sing the chorus to Pour Some Sugar On Me, which Mutt Lange was shellshocked by when he heard it. Knowing that they had gold on their hands, the band actually recorded the track a lot quicker than any of the other songs on the record, which was not necessarily what the higher ups at the label wanted to hear.

After taking just a few more weeks to get the record done, Sugar almost didn't have a shot at radio either, being too mainstream for the rock stations before eventually blowing the hell up once the pop circuit got ahold of it. While there might not have been a way to follow up something like Pyromania, the strength of this song alone led to them to pretty much doubling their success.
